Ofo scepter, Nigeria, wood and iron

Staff Ofo which represents the ritual authority among the Igbo of Nigeria. Made of wood called Detarium senegalense (considered sacred in Igbo) and forged iron. All religious and political activities require the use of an Ofo among the Igbo. This object has a good age. An iron hoop is missing at its base.
