Ewe Ouatchi stool, Togo, wood
H: 19,7 in
Anthropomorphic chief’s stool with a beautiful patina of “waxed” use. The cubic sculpture is characteristic of the Ewe Ouatchi style, along the Ghanaian border. It represents a woman in a caryatid position holding the seat in her hands. The object is authentic and has no restoration.
Mid 20th century.
